Man Charged After Fleeing Hopkinsville Police In Stolen Vehicle

A man was charged after he fled from law enforcement in a stolen vehicle in Hopkinsville on Friday morning.

Hopkinsville Police say they were alerted to a stolen vehicle in Oak Grove and located the vehicle in Hopkinsville, driven by 26-year-old Kaves Payton, where they attempted to conduct a traffic stop.

Payton reportedly fled down Fort Campbell Boulevard, and spike strips were used in the area of Interstate 24, but he was still able to get on to the Interstate.

Police say the pursuit came to an end on Interstate 24 just before exit 89 with a precision immobilization technique, and he was apprehended with a law enforcement K9.

Payton was taken by Hopkinsville EMS to Jennie Stuart Health for treatment before being taken to jail. He is charged with reckless driving, first-degree fleeing or evading police, first-degree criminal mischief, resisting arrest, driving on a DUI-suspended license, first-degree wanton endangerment, receiving stolen property, possession of fentanyl, tampering with physical evidence, and fugitive from another state.
