Pembroke Fire Department Chief Nick Belair says the owner was grilling food when the fire quickly spread to the grass and the home.
The home suffered extensive damage to the back and smoke damage throughout the entire structure.
The American Red Cross was called to help the owner and firefighters from Fairview, Trenton, and Oak Grove all helped in extinguishing the flames.
The home is located at 434 South Main Street. Belair says Pembroke Baptist Church on South Main Street is taking donations for the homeowner on Saturday from 11 am to 1 pm. For more information, call 270-791-0263.
