Man Charged With Assaulting Police Officers During Traffic Stop

A Clarksville man was charged with assaulting two police officers during a traffic stop on Ambridge Street in Oak Grove on Thanksgiving Day.

Oak Grove Police say they stopped a vehicle driven by 40-year-old Richard Woodson for a problem with his headlights, and during the stop, they could smell the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.

He was asked to exit the vehicle and reportedly started arguing with law enforcement.

Police say when asked to stop moving around so much, he would not stop, and while trying to handcuff him, he hit an officer in the face, grabbed an officer by the throat, then he was tased twice, before being taken into custody.

After a search of the vehicle, Police say a handgun, a marijuana joint, and an open alcoholic beverage container were found.

Woodson was arrested and charged with insufficient head lamps, no insurance, resisting arrest, third-degree assault of a police officer, first-degree assault of a police officer, possession of marijuana, and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon.
