A Hopkinsville man was charged after a report of a burglary in progress on Thompsonville Lane in Oak Grove on Tuesday morning.

Oak Grove Police say they were responding to a burglary in progress when they located a vehicle driven by 36-year-old Jesse Futrell, who tried to drive around a police cruiser before coming to a stop.

In his vehicle, several items taken from the home were reportedly located along with two pill bottles of codeine that were not prescribed to him.

Police say the back door of the home was damaged, along with a TV screen.

Police say Futrell had the odor of alcohol coming from his breath, and after a field sobriety test, he was arrested and charged with first-degree criminal mischief, DUI second offense, first-degree burglary, possession of codeine, and possession of an open alcoholic beverage container in a motor vehicle.
