A Hopkinsville man was charged with assaulting a police officer after a burglary on South Virginia Street in Hopkinsville on Thursday afternoon.
Hopkinsville Police say they were called for 49-year-old Victor Vasquez, who forced his way into his neighbor’s apartment and destroyed items inside.
He reportedly fled from law enforcement and was possibly armed with a screwdriver when they arrived.
Police say a taser was used twice to stop him, but he then kicked the officer several times as he physically fought with the officer before law enforcement K9 Leo was used to help in the arrest.
The officer reportedly suffered several injuries and a broken watch during the arrest. Vasquez was arrested and charged with second-degree fleeing or evading police, first-degree criminal mischief, resisting arrest, third-degree assault of a police officer, and second-degree burglary.
