Man Taken Into Custody After Standoff With Law Enforcement

A Hopkinsville man was charged after a standoff with law enforcement during a welfare check on Buckley Avenue on Tuesday morning.

Hopkinsville Police say they were called to check the welfare of a man who had active warrants on Buckley Avenue.

Police say when law enforcement arrived, he made threats to harm himself and was armed with a machete.

The department’s SWAT Team and crisis negotiators were called to help with the arrest.

Hopkinsville Police Department negotiators Nina Bond and Jonathan Sholar reportedly talked with the man for several hours and were able to get him to exit the home and be taken into custody.
