Local leaders from Southwestern Kentucky and Montgomery County, Tennessee, are joining forces to help Fort Campbell Soldiers, their families, and federal employees affected by the ongoing federal government shutdown.
In partnership with the Christian County Military Affairs Committee, officials have announced a series of Emergency Resource Fairs to provide relief, guidance, and essential supplies to those experiencing financial hardship.
Nationwide, more than 670,000 federal employees have been furloughed, with another 730,000 working without pay, leaving many families struggling to afford groceries, fuel, and childcare. Those impacts have been deeply felt across the Fort Campbell region.
“The men and women who serve our country—whether in uniform or as federal employees—should never have to face financial hardship due to circumstances beyond their control,” said Shannon Lane, Director of Military Affairs for the Christian County Chamber of Commerce. She added that communities across state lines are uniting to ensure those who serve receive support during this difficult time.
Montgomery County Mayor Wes Golden echoed that sentiment, emphasizing the joint effort between Tennessee and Kentucky. He said both counties are committed to helping service members, government workers, and their families “no matter what side of the state line they live on,” calling them “friends, neighbors, and colleagues who have sacrificed for us.”
Two fairs will be held to serve affected households:

Donations such as gift cards, care packages, and informational materials are being accepted. Organizations wishing to participate can request a complimentary table to share resources or distribute items directly to families.
“The psychological and emotional toll this shutdown has taken cannot be overlooked,” said Christian County Judge-Executive Jerry Gilliam. “By working together as one regional community, we can show Fort Campbell families they’re not facing this alone.”
