The Jennie Stuart Health Foundation held a dedication ceremony Thursday evening, unveiling the new Tree of Life Art Installation inside Jennie Stuart Medical Center.

The installation marks the completion of the Foundation’s first capital campaign for the E.C. Green Cancer Center. Funded through a gift from Gail and Malcolm Blane, the sculpture and digital display honor the mission of the Tree of Life Fund and symbolize the community’s lasting commitment to cancer care.

The Tree of Life Fund traces its roots to 1976, when the family of longtime board member Howard Stone established the Howard Stone Memorial Fund after his passing from cancer. In 1996, that fund was merged into the newly created Tree of Life Fund, which was entrusted to the Foundation at its formation. Over the decades, community support has helped expand oncology services, ease burdens for patients, and honor loved ones through the fund.

Foundation Executive Director Sarah Francis said the Tree of Life Fund continues to make a difference today, supporting families with transportation and medication costs, funding equipment that improves treatment, and providing meaningful ways to remember those touched by cancer.

Foundation Board Chair Tracey Williams said the new installation “gives visible form to the mission of the Tree of Life Fund,” representing hope, encouragement, and enduring connections for patients and families. Tribute names scrolling across the display serve as a reminder that no one faces the journey alone.

Jennie Stuart Health CEO Eric Lee also reflected on the fund’s history, calling it a legacy nearly 50 years in the making. He credited families, physicians, staff, and donors for advancing cancer care in the community and ensuring that Howard Stone’s vision of accessible treatment close to home continues.
