Public Drawings On Waterfowl Hunting Fast Approaching

The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources has set dates for public drawings to assign season-long waterfowl hunting blinds at several wildlife management areas this fall, including key sites in western Kentucky.

Hunters will have opportunities at Doug Travis WMA in Carlisle and Hickman counties and Lake Barkley WMA in Trigg and Lyon counties, two of the region’s most popular waterfowl destinations.

The Doug Travis drawing will be held Saturday, August 23, at 10 AM, at the WMA office a half-mile south of Berkley on KY 123. Registration begins at 9 AM The Lake Barkley drawing follows on Monday, September 15, with registration starting at 8 AM at the shelter near Lake Barkley Dam, off U.S. 62 by Lake City.

Hunters must be at least 18, with a valid Kentucky hunting license, state and federal waterfowl permits, and proof of hunter education if born after 1974. A Harvest Information Program (HIP) confirmation number is also required and can be obtained through the “My Profile” section at fw.ky.gov.

Drawn hunters are responsible for building and maintaining blinds and may name one co-owner. Sites must be occupied 30 minutes before shooting time or they open to the public.
