Grant to Aid HCC’s Electrical, AC, and Construction Programs

The Delta Regional Authority has awarded Hopkinsville Community College a $250,000 grant to enhance workforce training in electrical, construction, and air conditioning technologies, which aims to create pathways to high-quality employment and bolster industry growth in the area.

The grant will fund the purchase of two enclosed transport trailers, facilitating the movement of equipment and tools between on-site training locations, including the annual Habitat for Humanity build.

In addition, students in the electrical, air conditioning, and construction programs will receive tool kits and backpacks, ensuring they have the necessary resources while alleviating financial burdens. The grant will also support essential electrical upgrades to the North Main Street training facility and enhance capacity and functionality across all three programs.

A portion of the funds will also cover 20 months of salary for a full-time electrical technology instructor during the two-year grant period.

Dr. Alissa Young, HCC’s President and CEO, says the grant award will help the college fulfill its mission of delivering high-quality academics and hands-on training that prepare students for success in skilled trades.

HCC’s workforce training project is among 25 initiatives funded by the Delta Workforce Grant Program, which supports employment and training needs across the lower Mississippi River Delta and Alabama Black Belt regions.
