Christian County Fiscal Court and its magistrates approved two major pieces of legislation Tuesday morning — entering into a “Debris Removal and Clean Up Grant” for the late May 2024 spring storms, and acceptance of an interlocal agreement between Christian County and Graves County jails.
Christian County Emergency Management Director Randy Graham said the USDA grant does come with a local match, but will help take care of what will end up being a $400,000 project.
Graham confirmed this will still be a “lengthy process” before all of the cleanup begins.
Meanwhile, officials with Mayfield and Graves County still have the opportunity to build a new housing facility for local and regional inmates.
However, the December 2021 tornado destroyed the original property, and Christian County has been boarding their criminals since then.
Jailer Adam Smith confirmed conversations on this measure had been on-going for some time.
