State transportation officials have again announced the closure of the restrooms at the Christian County Welcome Center on I-24 westbound near the Kentucky-Tennessee line.
They say the center itself, along with the parking lot and vending area, remains open. However, restroom facilities are unavailable at this time due to ongoing plumbing issues.
It’s the latest closure in what is a recurring problem at the center that greets between 1,500 and 2,000 vehicles daily, with most of them stopping to use the restroom.
In June of last year, the restrooms were closed indefinitely due to water problems. Two months later, the welcome center was temporarily closed for plumbing repairs but reopened after a week.
The rest area across the interstate as you enter Montgomery County, Tennessee, remains open and plumbing-problem free.
