A new family-owned restaurant and country store opened in Pembroke wants to bring the community together with food.

Virginia Poland says her mother and father, Ronny and Brenda Luttrull, opened Down Home this month at the intersection of South Main Street and West Nashville Street, bringing breakfast foods, sandwiches, along with plants, canned goods, baked goods, honey, and ice cream to Pembroke.

Poland says the hope is to add community events such as painting classes and bible studies as well. She says her parents felt led by the Lord to open the business after retiring from the feed business.

Poland says her sister, Sarah Joiner and brother, Robert Luttrull, are helping along with all the grandkids which also heavily influenced her parents to open the business. They want the grandkids to learn discipline and skills to help them in choosing a path in life.

The breakfast menu includes a sausage biscuit, biscuits and gravy, and coffee, with the lunch menu adding hot dogs, along with sandwiches made with ham, turkey, bologna, and liverwurst.

The restaurant is located at 102 West Nashville Street in Pembroke.
