Trigg County Public Schools Director Matt Ladd brought several updates to the Board of Education Thursday night — delivering news on two home fronts.

Considerable progress, he said, has already been made on the Wildcat Gymnasium demolition.

He noted that demolition of the east- and west-side bleachers will begin Friday — and some of the wood recovered may find a new purpose close to home.

Top dressing has already been addressed on several athletic fields, in preparation for summer practices ahead — and he said painting has already begun on the Trigg County Middle School Gymnasium’s floor.

But in humble fashion, not looking to be the headline, Ladd buried the lede — and saved his personal news for last.

A student-athlete and proud Trigg County High School alumnus, this is the only district he’s ever known. For the last 29-plus years, he has weaved his way through various teaching, coaching and administrative positions and opportunities across the Cadiz community.

Now, he’s a proud grandfather of two — and thankful of two children and a wife, Sara, who allowed him to pursue and persist all these years with the Wildcats.

Ladd said he turned his retirement letter this week, and that he had an initial feeling of retirement when he completed his final round of bus duty in May.

He also reaffirmed that he is very much on board until August 1 — wanting to make sure there is a smooth transition, and everything is in place before the beginning of the 2025-26 academic and athletic year.

Looking to step away on his own terms, Ladd said this was his choice — with no internal factors other than “it was time.” He plans to remain active in the community, still serving both Cadiz-Trigg County Tourism and Cadiz-Trigg County Parks & Recreation, but added that he’s looking forward to new opportunities — should they present themselves.
