Authorities warn the community about signs of drug addiction and give helpful insight on ways to get help.

Christian County Sheriff’s Office Spokesman Chris Miller tells the News Edge they have several local resources to help people addicted to drugs.

He added that the Kentucky Overdose Response Effort is also a great resource to help families in finding the next step to help with drug addiction.

Miller says there are several signs you can look out for when dealing with someone who may be addicted to drugs.

He also says hygiene, sudden weight loss or gains, finding needles, pipes, and other drug paraphernalia are signs of possible drug addiction.

Miller says locally meth, fentanyl, prescription drugs, and marijuana are the most common drugs in this area adding marijuana is commonly laced with other drugs like fentanyl.

Tips help get investigations started into possible drug trafficking, Miller says, adding that sometimes it takes time to build a case to get a search or arrest warrant.

Miller says a friend or family member being addicted to drugs can lead to death, stress on a family, financial struggles, accidental exposure to drugs, and violent outbursts.

If you have a friend or family member addicted to drugs, Miller says the best start is talking with them with empathy.

Miller added that there is also a hotline you can call, 1-833-8KYHELP, and if drugs have been found in your home, calling for law enforcement for help will also get them resources through the courts.

Hopkinsville Fire Department Spokesman Captain Payton Rogers says that 2025 as of June first they have responded to 51 reports of a drug overdose.

Past calls for drug overdoses by year.
