Senator Jason Howell of Murray has been appointed to the Disaster Prevention and Resiliency Task Force for the 2025 Interim.

The task force will evaluate Kentucky’s preparedness for natural disasters and develop strategies to improve emergency response, infrastructure resilience, mitigation efforts, and long-term recovery planning.

The appointment follows recent disasters across the state, including deadly tornadoes and floods that left many communities devastated. The task force aims to ensure Kentucky is better equipped to handle such events in the future.

Howell represents the 1st Senate District, which includes areas heavily affected by past tornadoes. His role on the task force will bring firsthand experience to the development of policy recommendations designed to support affected communities and prevent future loss.

The Disaster Prevention and Resiliency Task Force will meet monthly throughout the 2025 Interim. Its findings may inform future legislation aimed at strengthening the state’s disaster response systems.
