FEMA Disaster Recovery Centers Open In Eight Counties

Governor Andy Beshear announced Monday that FEMA Disaster Recovery Centers are now open in eight of the first 13 counties approved for Individual Assistance following April’s floods.

Residents of Anderson, Butler, Carroll, Christian, Clark, Franklin, Hardin, Hopkins, Jessamine, McCracken, Mercer, Owen, and Woodford counties can visit any DRC for recovery help and to apply for federal aid.

All 13 counties are expected to have a center by April 30.

Disaster Recovery Centers are opening after President Donald Trump’s partial approval of Beshear’s April 11 Major Disaster Declaration request.

Beshear plans to request more counties be added as damage assessments continue, and requests for public assistance in 33 counties and statewide hazard mitigation are still pending.

Residents and business owners can apply at DisasterAssistance.gov, through the FEMA App, or by calling 800-621-FEMA (3362).

Those using relay services should provide their relay number to FEMA. Applicants must ensure they are applying under the correct declaration (April Flood DR-4864), their damaged home was their primary residence, they upload required documents, and they have not received aid for the same losses elsewhere.

If you disagree with FEMA’s decision, you may appeal online, by mail or fax, or in person at a DRC.

After the flooding, Beshear declared a state of emergency, activated the State Emergency Operations Center, and enforced price gouging protections, which were renewed April 17.

He also urged local officials to conduct damage assessments and asked residents to photograph damages before clean-up and report them to local emergency management.
