During Monday’s Trigg County Fiscal Court meeting, magistrates followed up major discussions on the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet’s Secondary Rural Road Plan with its annual agreement into the County Road Aid Cooperative Program.

This brings Trigg County in alliance not only with the Secretary of Transportation and his cabinet, but also the Department of Rural and Municipal Aid, as well as KYTC.

According to state law, 18.3% of revenue resulting from the imposition of motor fuel taxes are set aside for construction, reconstruction and maintenance of county roads and bridges — and this is what created Trigg County’s mos recent allocation of $1.642 million for the 2025-26 fiscal year.

The first distribution is valued at 60%, or $956,039, with less than 3% set aside for an emergency fund.

The second distribution is valued at 30%, with less than 3% again set aside for an emergency fund.

A final distribution is whatever is left remaining.

Upon written application from an authorized representative of the county, emergency funds can be disbursed up to 50% of the approved funds for critical roadway and bridge projects. After completion of the project, a remaining amount is determined and released for cost reimbursements.

Other fiscal notes:

— Humphries said East Lake Road Bridge is officially closed as of last Thursday. Through the inspection process, a mandate was handed out to make it a one-way in for the 10-to-12 houses the thoroughfare serves, to be used only for single-car traffic. It is now on a “needed improvements” list.

Furthermore, an inspection on the North Tanyard Road Bridge led to a reduction of nine tons allowed.

— A few dates of importance:

+ A resident-only tire round up is planned for 7:30 AM until 4 PM Thursday and Friday, and from 7:30 AM until noon Saturday at the Trigg County Road Department Garage on Old Hopkinsville Road.

Humphries noted this round-up is not for local automotive businesses.

+ On April 28, Humphries said the South Western Kentucky Economic Development Council will be reviewing some prospects on the I-24 Business Park speculation building in Trigg County.

+ Also on April 28, Trigg County’s Budget Committee will be meeting at 2 PM, leading into the budget’s first reading on May 5. Humphries said there are “a few items to discuss.”

+ At 5 PM, April 29, the Trigg County Veteran’s Memorial Committee will be meeting on its newly established site along US 68/80 and Vinson’s Cemetery, in order to discuss the next phase of that hallowed ground.

+ A 10 AM April 30 transportation meeting at the Pennyrile Area Development District, Humphries said, could lead to heightened awareness on the concerns for Glenwood Mill Road, which may jump in priority on the regional SHIFT plan following untenable flooding concerns.
