
The Christian County Grand Jury handed down several indictments on Friday, including charges connected to police chases, child abuse, and sex-related offenses.
A true bill was returned on Christopher Winters of Clarksville on multiple charges, including first-degree fleeing or evading police, first-degree criminal mischief, tampering with physical evidence, first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance – cocaine, and first-degree wanton endangerment.
Winters was arrested on January 27 after Hopkinsville Police reported officers attempted a traffic stop on Fort Campbell Boulevard that led to a high-speed pursuit that ended on East 9th Street at McLean Avenue. Police reportedly found suspected cocaine with a large amount of money in the vehicle.
Lindsay Kio, of Hopkinsville, was indicted on numerous charges, including first-degree fleeing or evading police, theft of a vehicle, first-degree possession of a controlled substance – meth, resisting arrest and first-degree criminal mischief.
The Christian County Sheriff’s Office reported deputies tried to make a traffic stop on February 24 on a vehicle driven by Kio on Madisonville Road, which was taken from a home on West 2nd Street.
Kio reportedly fled, leading to a high-speed chase that ended in front of the Hopkinsville Police Department after state and local police deployed spike strips to flatten the vehicle’s tires.
During a search of her belongings, police said they found suspected meth.
A true bill was returned on Charles Edwards, of Fort Campbell, on charges of first-degree fleeing or evading police, speeding, and first-degree criminal mischief.
The charges are from February 22 when Hopkinsville Police reported Edwards fled from state police attempting to make a traffic stop on a motorcycle on Fort Campbell Boulevard. Police said the pursuit ended after Edwards lost control of the motorcycle at the intersection of East 9th Street and Skyline Drive and hit the back of a Hopkinsville Police cruiser causing minor damage.
Mara Caldwell of Hopkinsville was indicted on a single count of first-degree criminal abuse of a child under 12.
The indictment alleges that Caldwell intentionally abused a minor child, placing her in a situation that may cause serious injury on February 28. The case was investigated by the Hopkinsville Police Department.
Anthony Torres of Hopkinsville was indicted on charges of first-degree sexual abuse and distributing obscene material to minors between April 1, 2023, and August 1, 2023. The case was investigated by the Christian County Sheriff’s Office.
