Grand Jury Issues Indictments for Sex Crimes, Child Abuse, and Police Endangerment

The Christian County Grand Jury issued a series of indictments on Friday on a range of charges, including sex-related offenses, endangering a police officer, child abuse, and theft.

A true bill was returned on Carlos Crenshaw on charges of kidnapping, theft by extortion, three counts of first-degree rap,e and five counts of first-degree sodomy.

On October 12, 2024, Crenshaw is accused of forcing a woman to have sexual intercourse while unlawfully restraining her during the crime and then obtained $2,244 by threatening her.

James Johnson, of Hopkinsville, was indicted on numerous charges, including third-degree terroristic threatening, possession of cocaine, tampering with physical evidence, first-degree wanton endangerment of a police officer, first and second-degree fleeing and evading police, resisting arrest, leaving the scene of an accident, first-degree criminal mischief, and several traffic violations.

The charges stem from an incident on November 20, 2024, when Hopkinsville Police attempted to stop Johnson’s vehicle on Lafayette Road due to a license plate issue. Johnson reportedly pulled into a Dollar General parking lot where he reversed into an officer’s vehicle, and then fled at high speed.

According to police, the pursuit concluded at Johnson’s residence on Stone Valley Drive, where he tried to flee into the house but was apprehended. During the arrest, police said Johnson made multiple threats against the officer and the officer’s children.

A true bill was returned on Christopher Cobb, of Hopkinsville, on charges of first-degree strangulation, fourth-degree assault causing minor injury, and first-degree criminal abuse of a child under 12.

The indictment claims that on November 1, 2024, Cobb applied pressure to a child’s throat, obstructing their breathing or blood circulation, and abused the minor. He is also accused of striking a woman during the incident.

Jennifer Lancaster, of Hopkinsville, was indicted on charges of theft by unlawful taking over $10,000. According to the indictment, she’s accused of unlawfully taking approximately $79,984 from an individual between May 1, 2019, and June 30, 2024.
