BIG BEE Spelling Bee

Ready to test out those spelling skills and claim victory and bragging rights as the best speller in the sweetest lil place on earth!
“BEE there or BEE square” for the inaugural BIG BEE Spelling Bee on August 1, 2024, at 6:00 pm. Join us for an evening of fun, while supporting the Christian County Literacy Council. To purchase a ticket to “bee” a speller, click on the ticket link, hit “Attend”, pay $20 entry fee and you have officially registered as a spelling bee participant!

Hopkinsville-Christian County Convention and Visitors Bureau, and the Christian County Literacy Council are joining forces to host The BIG BEE Spelling Bee. This unique event, designed for adults aged 21 and up, is set to take place Thursday, August 1st, 2024, at 6:00 p.m. at the Hopkinsville Brewing Company.

In a fun twist on a traditional spelling bee, The BIG BEE brings the challenge to grown-ups, encouraging friendly competition and promoting the importance of literacy. The hosting of this event is a direct response to community interest, following the success of the Scripps Regional Spelling Bee in Hopkinsville for the last two years.

Francene Gilmer, Executive Director of The Christian County Literacy group said, “The BIG BEE will follow the familiar spelling bee format, allowing adults to participate in an educational, engaging, and entertaining event. Not only will this event provide a unique night out, but it will also showcase the significance of continuing education in a fun and lighthearted setting”.

Registration for The BIG BEE is open now until July 26th, 2024. Interested participants can secure their spot in the competition for a $20 fee. All proceeds from the event will directly support the Christian County Literacy Council’s ongoing efforts to promote literacy within the community. “We are thrilled to partner with such a wonderful organization and provide an opportunity for patrons in our community to support the Literacy Council.” “Not only have citizens gotten excited about the bee, but numerous local businesses and representatives from those entities have shown their support by becoming sponsors and spellers of the BIG BEE. Currently, the City of Hopkinsville, Walmart Distribution Center, Planters Bank, The Holiday Inn, and Hopkinsville Water Environment Authority are sponsors of the event”, says Amy Rogers, Executive Director of Visit Hopkinsville.

To register for The BIG BEE, simply stop by the Hopkinsville Visitor Center located at 1730 E. 9th Street, to purchase your ticket or go to Visit Hopkinsville’s Facebook event page, follow the link provided, hit “Attend”, and pay the $20.
