The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources is asking residents to give their holiday evergreens a second life through the “Christmas for the Fishes” program.
From now through Jan. 16, 2026, donors can drop off real trees at 37 locations across the state, including the Walmart on Clinic Drive in Hopkinsville. These trees will be weighted and submerged in local lakes to create “underwater neighborhoods” for aquatic life.
Real evergreen trees only, with artificial trees, wreaths, or trees with lights, tinsel, and ornaments not allowed.
Anglers can find the GPS coordinates of these new habitats on the FishBoatKY app or at fw.ky.gov.
For a full list of drop-off locations, visit the department’s website or call 1-800-858-1549.
