A Hopkinsville man was charged with assaulting his wife during an argument on Gospel Peace Road on Wednesday.

Christian County Sheriff’s deputies say they went to a Woodbine Street home for a mental evaluation and found the woman had been assaulted the day before and took her to the hospital.

Deputies say on Wednesday, 45-year-old James Jones got into an argument with his wife over her using Snapchat and accused her of cheating, then choked her, punched her several times, pushed her down, and held her down, leading to several injuries, including a possible broken rib.

The investigation led to the arrest of Jones on Thursday, and he reportedly claimed she had assaulted him, but he was not able to show any signs of injury.

He is charged with second-degree strangulation and second-degree assault.
