Man Charged With Assaulting A Woman With A Gun

A Hopkinsville man was charged with assaulting a woman and pointing a gun at her head during a fight on McLean Avenue on Wednesday morning.

Hopkinsville Police say they were called to Blue Creek Medical Center for a woman who was assaulted by 31-year-old Jayontez Poindexter during a fight that morning.

Police say he punched her, pulled her hair, grabbed her by the neck, broke her tooth, hit her with a handgun, and pointed the gun at her head.

He also reportedly stated she was going to die today in calls and messages. Police say he was located on Bryan Street and found to have a gun and marijuana in his vehicle.

After talking with him about the fight, police say he claimed it was not physical and he was upset about the weather.

Poindexter was arrested and charged with fourth-degree assault, second-degree terroristic threatening, first-degree wanton endangerment, possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, and possession of marijuana.
