With a predicted winter weather event expected to move into the region tonight, Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 2 crews in all eleven counties are making preparations by pretreating roads.
State transportation officials say pretreating activities began on Friday, before a front that deposited sleet in areas of the district on Saturday, with county crews back out again around 6:00 Monday morning. They said the focus will be on main A and B routes throughout the day, with pretreating activities to halt at around sunset.
Officials say crews will stay on standby tonight, ready to respond as needed.
Tomorrow morning, main routes will be treated with salt before crews begin addressing C routes as needed.
Motorists who plan to be on the road tonight should check the forecast first and plan accordingly. Weather and roadway conditions can change fast. If you encounter a snowplow, please allow them plenty of room to safely work and remember that they may be moving more slowly than other traffic on the road.
