Kentucky State Treasurer Mark H. Metcalf announced that nearly $8 million in unclaimed property is owed to residents of Christian County.

The Treasury’s Division of Unclaimed Property is currently holding $7,850,700.84 in unclaimed assets.

Metcalf urged residents to search the state’s database, saying the money represents hard-earned funds that deserve to be returned to their rightful owners.

Unclaimed property can include dormant bank accounts, unclaimed insurance payouts, utility deposits, stocks, bonds and safe deposit box contents. After about three years of inactivity, such assets are transferred to the state for safekeeping.

Kentuckians can search for unclaimed property at treasury.ky.gov.

Since taking office on January 1, 2024, Metcalf says his team has already returned a record $79.1 million to Kentuckians.
