A Hopkinsville man was charged with fleeing from law enforcement on East 7th Street, leading to the discovery of dogs found in terrible living conditions on Friday afternoon.
Christian County Sheriff’s deputies say they attempted to get out with 39-year-old John Mann, whose vehicle was in a ditch and part of the road, and Mann fled on foot.
The vehicle was reportedly found to have a false tag, and Mann had dropped his phone while fleeing. Deputies say they went to a Pembroke Road address to serve the warrants on Mann and found five dogs on the property that were supposed to have been surrendered that were emaciated, had no food, water bowls filled with a mixture of mud and liquid, and one dog that was deceased.
Mann was later reportedly located in Elkton and found to have meth. He is charged with possession of meth, third-degree fleeing or evading police, second-degree cruelty to animals, torture of a dog or a cat, obstructing a highway, and improper registration plate.
Mann reportedly claimed the dogs belonged to an individual living in Illinois, but he was taking care of them.
