The Kentucky Community and Technical College System is now accepting nominations for its 2026 Pathfinder of the Year Award, which recognizes 16 outstanding high school teachers and counselors across the state.

Nominations are open through December 31.

The annual award honors educators who play a pivotal role in helping students set goals, explore college and career options, and take the next step after graduation. Each of Kentucky’s 16 KCTCS colleges will select one educator from its service area.

Last year’s honorees came from schools throughout the commonwealth. From that group, Doug Wainscott of Owen County High School was named the 2025 overall Pathfinder of the Year for his exceptional mentorship and advocacy on behalf of students.

KCTCS President Ryan Quarles said teachers and counselors are instrumental in helping students understand their options after high school, including opportunities at their local community and technical colleges.

All Kentucky high school teachers and school counselors are eligible. Nominations may be submitted by KCTCS students, faculty, staff, or high school personnel.

Nominees will be evaluated on how they have:
+ Encouraged students to attend a KCTCS college
+ Helped students identify career goals or postsecondary pathways
+ Provided meaningful mentorship
+ Maintained ongoing support or communication with students

Award recipients will be recognized early next year at local high school events and will receive a custom-designed award and prize package.

More information and the nomination form are available online at the Pathfinder Award page.
