Several people came out to see the new fire station on Walton Way in Hopkinsville as it opened Friday morning.

Hopkinsville Fire Department Spokesman Captain Payton Rogers says this station will help the fire department better serve the south end of the county and Interstate 24. He adds it will be a much-needed training facility.

The 38,000 square foot building on 10 acres has 10 bunk rooms for firefighters and will have a fire truck, an ambulance, and soon a four-story safety training tower.

The state-of-the-art station will also be a regional training center — one capable of bringing together several agencies under one roof for advanced skills.
