Authorities in Crofton participated in an American Red Cross exercise on Thursday to show they are ready should a disaster happen.
American Red Cross Disaster Program Manager Linda Porter says they picked three shelters in Western Kentucky, including Christian, Marshall, and Daviess Counties, to participate in an exercise called “Thunderbolt” showing how quickly they can open a shelter.
The Crofton Severe Weather Safe Room scored very high and was able to open quickly, with the signs, staff, and equipment needed in a disaster.
Porter says all three shelters were able to open in under an hour, adding that Crofton is a partner with the Red Cross program.
The exercise, Porter says, helps ensure readiness and testing each chapter’s abilities.
Porter says there is no notice in advance for the exercise. The Crofton Severe Weather Safe Room is located on North Old Madisonville Road in Crofton.
