A traffic stop on East 9th Street in Hopkinsville led to drug charges for a Hopkinsville man on Friday afternoon.
Hopkinsville Police say they stopped a vehicle driven by 32-year-old Lawrence Smith for his license plate not being illuminated, and during the stop, they could smell the odor of marijuana coming from his vehicle.
After a search of the vehicle, a gun that had been reported stolen and two prescription bottles that had been defaced of Promethazine, which he was not prescribed, were reportedly found.
After being arrested, police say he dumped approximately 25 grams of marijuana on the floor of the police cruiser.
He is charged with receiving stolen property, prescription-controlled substance not in proper container, possession of opiates, tampering with physical evidence, second-degree promoting contraband, rear license not illuminated, and possession of marijuana.
