Christian County Jailer Adam Smith has announced his campaign for reelection, saying he wants to continue building on progress in safety, efficiency, and community partnerships at the jail.
Smith said his first term focused on creating a safer facility, making operations financially self-sustaining, expanding community service programs, and increasing community involvement. He said those goals have been met through teamwork and accountability.
Since taking office, Smith has overseen a full upgrade to the jail’s surveillance system and equipped every deputy with a Taser to improve safety and reduce the need for physical force. He said safety remains the foundation of all operations — for staff, inmates, and the public.
Under Smith’s leadership, the jail has secured new contracts with Graves County, the U.S. Marshals Service, Fort Campbell, and ICE, which have generated record revenue and moved the facility toward full self-sufficiency.
The community service program has also expanded, with an additional deputy supervising a fourth inmate work crew. Those teams assist with major local events and projects and save county taxpayers more than $1 million each year.
Smith said strong partnerships with local churches, the Pennyroyal Center, and Empowered Minds have strengthened inmate rehabilitation programs and helped prepare individuals for successful reentry into the community.
He said his next term would focus on continuing improvements in safety, rehabilitation, and fiscal responsibility to ensure the jail remains a model of efficiency and respect for taxpayers.
