For parents looking to stay active while juggling child care, the Hopkinsville YMCA offers programs designed to make fitness more family-friendly.

Hailee Barnes, who works at the front desk and in child care, said she enjoys helping families balance workouts and parenting.

“I help kids when their parents come and work out,” Barnes said. “I hang out with them — very fun, love doing that.”

The YMCA’s child care center is open weekdays from 4 to 7 p.m. and weekends from 8 to 11 a.m. Children can stay for up to two hours while their parents use the facility.

“We have nursery and then we have kids’ corner,” Barnes said. “Sometimes we have activities and stuff, or we go outside or in the gym. We watch movies sometimes, and Parents Night Out — sometimes we do glow parties.”

Each Friday, the YMCA also hosts Parents Night Out, a program that allows parents to sign up at the front desk and leave the facility for the evening while staff supervise their children. YMCA membership is not required to participate in Parents Night Out.

“We do things on Fridays called Parents Night Out,” Barnes said. “So they can come up to the front desk and sign up for it, and they can stay the whole time we’re open in childcare.”
