A Hopkinsville woman was charged with abuse in connection with a family member after an investigation by law enforcement on Monday afternoon.

Hopkinsville Police say they were called to the hospital due to possible elder abuse and found a woman who was unable to speak but had multiple bruises and swelling on her forehead, jaw, arms, and legs.

Her shoulder, police say, appeared to be dislocated, and she had large, severe bed sores.

Her caregiver and relative, 63-year-old Patricia Bader-Sanders, reportedly stated that the bruising is due to her being combative and throwing herself out of bed.

Police say Bader-Sanders claimed she had not been able to get home nursing care after following up with the victim’s doctor, who stated he had not seen the patient but was shown a photo and told Bader-Sanders to take her to the emergency room.

Bader-Sanders was arrested and charged with knowingly abuse/neglect of adult by person.
