Several West Kentucky school leaders have been selected for the 2026 class of the Kentucky Women in Education Leadership (KWEL) program, announced by the Kentucky Association of School Administrators (KASA).
Honorees include Renikka Owen and Sara Sweeney Johnson of Christian County Schools, Lacey Schrock of Trigg County Schools, and Terry Gentry and Whitney Nichols of Ballard County Schools. They join 28 other women from across the state in the eighth annual cohort, representing 22 school districts.
Now numbering more than 250 members, KWEL brings together women in education to share ideas, build confidence, and prepare for greater leadership roles. Participants receive mentorship from executive-level leaders and engage in statewide networking and professional development opportunities.
KASA leaders said the program celebrates women who are leading schools and districts with innovation and purpose while shaping the future of education across Kentucky. The initiative, they added, helps participants recognize their influence and strengthen their ability to lead with both vision and collaboration.
Members of the 2026 class will be formally inducted during the KWEL Leadership Forum, scheduled for January 28–29, 2026, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Louisville.
Formed by KASA in 2017, the Kentucky Women in Education Leadership network empowers women to reach their full leadership potential and supports the advancement of educational excellence throughout the Commonwealth.
