A fire at a nursing home on Highpoint Drive in Hopkinsville damaged the building and prompted an evacuation on Friday morning.
Hopkinsville Fire Department Spokesman Captain Payton Rogers says at 4:46 am, they were called for a fire in a room at Bradford Heights Nursing & Rehabilitation in the 300 wing and found a fire near a heating and cooling unit.
A patient of the nursing home was taken to the hospital by ambulance due to chest pains unrelated to the fire, Rogers says, adding that other employees and patients were checked out at the scene as well.
Rogers says the fire was contained to one room with smoke and water damage to other rooms, along with the hallway. The staff, Rogers says, were able to get everyone out quickly, with 16 rooms being evacuated.
