Pockets Of Flash Flooding Possible Wednesday Evening

Heavy rain and potential flash flooding are a concern for residents in the lower to mid-Mississippi Valley on Wednesday evening.

The Weather Prediction Center is warning that thunderstorms are forming and could produce intense rainfall. One to two inches of rain per hour is possible in some areas, with total rainfall potentially reaching two to four inches. The threat of flash flooding is considered isolated but could become scattered in some locations.

The storms are being fueled by a combination of a slow-moving weather front and moist air, creating conditions ripe for heavy downpours. The rain is expected to continue through the evening, with the heaviest downpours likely in areas where storms “train” over the same location.
