Two Christian County High School seniors have been recognized by the National Merit Scholarship Program for their academic achievement.
Samuel Norwine has been named a National Merit Semifinalist, placing him among the top students in the country. He now advances to the finalist round, where he will compete for National Merit Scholarships to be awarded in 2026.
Lacey Paige has earned a Letter of Commendation for her strong academic performance, a distinction given to students who demonstrate exceptional achievement but do not move forward in the semifinalist competition.
More specifically, though, the Letter of Commendation is a recognition given by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation to students who score in the top 3-4% of all test-takers on the PSAT/NMSQT. While these students do not advance to the National Merit Scholarship competition, the commendation acknowledges their outstanding academic abilities and potential for success in college.
The National Merit Scholarship Program, founded in 1955, is one of the most prestigious academic competitions in the United States. Each year, about 1.5 million students enter the program through the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. Of those, roughly 16,000 students nationwide are named semifinalists.
