Mary Lou Gazda, age 74, of Hopkinsville, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, of natural causes. Mary chose cremation with no funeral or memorial service. Maddux-Fuqua-Hinton Funeral Home has been entrusted by the family to handle the arrangements.
Born in Mt. Clemens, Michigan, on January 10, 1951, to the late John and Rita (nee Korte) Gazda, Mary grew up in Utica, Michigan. A veteran of the U.S. Army, she spent her early years in Medical Records at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas, and later earned a Medical Assistant Certification. She was a member of the American Association of Medical Assistants, and spent much of her career working in Veterans Hospitals across the country. Mary was actively involved in the Hopkinsville Disabled American Veterans Chapter #8 and enjoyed many friendships there.
Survivors include her daughter, Dawn Sweeney and grandson, Daniel; brothers, Larry Gazda, Paul Gazda, Bob Gazda, and sisters, Barbara Braga and Joanne Mickelson.
