Once the proud U.S. Post Office for the City of Cadiz, the Janice Mason Art Museum continues to deliver daily. Rain or shine, it’s doing fine, and it’s busier than one might think.
That’s according to Board of Directors President Todd Wallace, who during Tuesday’s Cadiz Rotary Club meeting said their primary goal is to include students, senior citizens, lower income families, all ethnic backgrounds and all walks of life to their downtown property — in hopes of sharing arts and entertainment with the community and region.
Classes and courses, he added are offered on weekly and monthly bases.
Since 2000, Wallace said virtually every Trigg County student has had the opportunity to develop and showcase skills in annual exhibitions, and a summer arts & crafts program — called “Jumping July” — is offered to those aged 7-to-18.
Courtesy of the club, Wallace noted that ceramics efforts are being pushed more than ever, as a new, larger kiln helps artists fire larger pieces in a safer environment.
In fact, teacher Susan Bergman’s exhibit is on display now through October 3.
New this year: collaborations of “ArTalks” and “ArTalks Jr.,” which has already involved Kentucky’s First African American Poet Laureate Frank Walker, and will later involve “Ghosts Stories of Western Kentucky” on October 24 with Trigg County native and retired Western Kentucky University professor Dr. Tamela Williams Smith, while a spring visit from Kentucky’s current Poet Laureate Kathleen Driskell is expected.
Also new in 2025, the “Arts & Eats Series”…which is already underway.
Fundraising includes organizing the biennial “Dinner on Main” — which serves around 125 people — as well as the ever-popular “Chocolate Affair” near Valentine’s Day.
This weekend is “Dining with the Dearly Departed,” where 200-plus people are expected to swarm East End Cemetery over four-to-five performances. Wallace said only a few tickets remain for the Saturday noon performance.
Events and exhibits are open to the public, and free to attend.
