Hopkinsville, Christian County Burn Ban Now In Place

A burn ban is now in effect across Hopkinsville and Christian County due to extremely dry and hazardous conditions.

Hopkinsville Fire Chief Steven T. Futrell issued a citywide ban effective today, prohibiting open burning of any kind, including yard debris, bonfires, fire pits, and campfires. Exceptions are allowed only for outdoor cooking using gas, charcoal, or other self-contained equipment. Violations may result in fines or enforcement action.

At the same time, Christian County Judge-Executive Jerry Gilliam issued a No Burn Order for the entire county. The order, also effective today, bans all outdoor burning until further notice. Officials cite National Weather Service forecasts showing no significant rainfall in the near term, creating an elevated fire risk.

The Kentucky Division of Forestry has been notified and warns that violations may bring penalties under state law. County officials are urging residents to exercise extreme caution and fire awareness until the order is lifted.

Both bans will remain in effect until conditions improve. Updates are available at hoptown.org and through Hopkinsville Fire/EMS and Christian County Emergency Management.
