Dorothy “Dot” Orten Cohoon, age 99, of Cadiz, Kentucky, passed away on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, at Jennie Stuart Medical Center in Hopkinsville, Kentucky.
Born in Cerulean, Kentucky, on September 30, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Earl Orten and Helen Piercy Orten.
Dot was a dedicated worker, beginning her career at Thomas Industries and becoming a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW). She later worked at Montgomery Ward and as a cashier at Sanders IGA for many years.
Dot was a longtime member of Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church. She loved fishing, tending to her beautiful flower garden – especially her cherished roses – and playing bingo with friends. Above all, she adored being “Nanny” to her large family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert “Tobe” Cohoon; her son, Jerry Cohoon; her granddaughter, Katie Cohoon Scott; her brother, Edd Orten; and her great-grandson, Dawson Atkinson.
She is survived by her son, Terry Cohoon (Debbi) and her daughter, Jan Witty (Winfield), both of Cadiz; six grandchildren: John Means, Jacqueline Knight, Jamie Davis (Shannon), Lori Cortner, Stephanie Cohoon, and Shane Cohoon (Emily); 20 great-grandchildren: Andrew M. Wyatt, Amanda McGee (Mark), Adalynn Atkinson, Jenna Bierkamp, Jaycee Bierkamp, Shelby Hudson (Matt), Mackenzie Moore, Nicholas Nelson (McKenna), Savanah Cohoon, Elaina Cohoon, Breilyn Cortner, Ethan Cortner, Lillie Cortner, Cannon Scott, Caden Scott, McKinzey Davis, Chloe Davis, Jaron Davis, Dakota Davis, and Brooklyn Frederick; and 14 great-great-grandchildren: Jaylen & Jayden Stewart, Jaxon Johnson, Aslynn, Javon, Journey & Jeremiah McGee, Ajalise Navarro, Avery & Addy Kate Aklin, Kayden Bierkamp, Marleigh & Leo Smith, and Salem Scally.
Funeral services will be at Goodwin Funeral Home, 138 Main Street in Cadiz, at 1:00 PM, Saturday, September 13, 2025, with Rev. Ronnie Sivells officiating. Burial will follow in Cerulean Cemetery. Visitation will precede the service from 10:00 AM until the funeral hour.
