Cadiz Working To Correct Unpaid Tax Bills, Collect Utility Debt

The City of Cadiz is working to correct some local, state and federal tax payroll tax payment issues and collect unpaid utility debt owed to the city by customers.

The Cadiz City Council August summary packet that was provided during the council meeting Tuesday night includes unpaid tax bills totaling more than $61,000 to the IRS. The unpaid taxes also include more than $31,100 of payroll taxes that have not been paid on behalf of employees to the City of Cadiz.

City Administrative Officer Jack Lingenfelter told Your News Edge “The unpaid taxes in question are the payroll deductions not submitted to federal, state, and local entities (including taxes the city owed to itself)”. He says the failure to pay the state and federal taxes is the allegedly fault of an individual employee who is being pursued for reimbursement of the penalties and interest associated with that failure.

Lingenfelter told Cadiz City Council Tuesday night the city is considering turning more than $80,000 of unpaid utility bills owed to the city over to a collection agency.

Lingenfelter told City Council there is quite a bit of discussion at city hall about the former P.J. Clark Lumber Company property on Cerulean Road.
