Gas prices in West Central Kentucky are up slightly this past week, according to AAA East Central’s Gas Price Report. The regional average rose four cents to $2.87 per gallon. That’s higher than a week ago, but still below last year’s average of $2.91.

In Trigg County, it’s $2.93, it’s $2.77 in Christian County, it’s $2.85 in Todd County, it’s $2.75 in Hopkins County, it’s $3.00 in Caldwell County, it’s $2.86 in Lyon County, it’s $2.77 in Marshall County and it’s $2.80 in Calloway County.

The price jump followed a temporary shutdown at the BP Whiting Refinery in Indiana, the largest in the Midwest, after severe storms caused flooding. The outage pushed prices higher across the Great Lakes region, but operations have since resumed.

Nationally, the average price for a gallon of regular remains steady at $3.18, the same as last week. That’s three cents more than a month ago but 15 cents less than one year ago.

Crude oil prices also ticked upward. West Texas Intermediate closed last Wednesday at $64.15 per barrel, up 90 cents. U.S. crude oil inventories dropped by 2.4 million barrels and are now 6% below the five-year average.

Regionally, average gas prices today are $2.87 in Bowling Green, $2.73 in Elizabethtown, $3.18 in Louisville, $2.76 in Owensboro, and $2.80 in Paducah. Kentucky’s record high of $4.74 was set in June 2022.

The most expensive gas markets remain on the West Coast, led by California at $4.59. The cheapest are in the South, with Mississippi averaging $2.73.

Meanwhile, electricity costs for drivers using public charging stations stayed steady at a national average of 36 cents per kilowatt hour.
