If you see an army of Trigg County High School seniors in the district parking lot this weekend, there’s a reason why.
They will get the chance to leave their mark on campus with what could become the annual Senior Parking Space Painting Day.
It is scheduled for Saturday, August 30, from 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., with extra time available if needed. All seniors must paint during this scheduled window unless they have prior administrative approval, and the later start time is designed to allow cross country and band students to take part.
To be eligible, students had to pay both their $15 parking pass fee and the $25 space painting fee by Wednesday, August 27. Late payments were not accepted, as spaces were finalized on Thursday.
However, designs for painted spaces can be submitted to the high school office and Principal Kristee Barnes for approval by the end of school Friday, August 29. Seniors who paid on time received an email with instructions to reply with their designs.
Superintendent Dr. Rex Booth confirmed the space painting fee is merely a deposit, which will be returned in full if families and students come back after the school year and re-cover their work.
During Thursday night’s board meeting, Booth showed a mock-up rendering to board members.
Students preparing for Saturday should bring supplies to make the day go smoothly.
Suggested items include:
+ 2-inch tape for marking inside the space
+ A leaf blower or broom
+ Paint rollers and paint pans
Barnes said more than 40 members of the Class of 2026 have signed up and are excited to bring their creativity to the lot.
She also said senior parking spots are a win for the school because it boosts school spirit and tradition, gives students a stronger sense of belonging, and provides a positive senior privilege that motivates responsibility. Painting together also builds community and class unity, transforms the lot into a colorful showcase of school identity, and establishes a first-ever tradition that future Wildcats can look forward to.
