A Hopkinsville man and a Winchester, Tennessee woman were charged in two theft investigations in Hopkinsville on Wednesday morning.

Hopkinsville Police say they were sent to a hotel on Richard Mill Drive for someone not paying for a cab ride. They determined 33-year-old Lauren Shears had two tool boxes and other tools that had been stolen from Rural King the day before.

She reportedly stated she was the getaway driver for the Rural King theft.

Police located 49-year-old Jason James after he ran from them when they arrived on the scene and hid in a drain. They say James had 29 grams of meth and a glass pipe in his possession.

The couple reportedly called for a cab after their vehicle broke down at the 17-mile marker of I-169 following the theft at Rural King.

Shears was arrested and charged with receiving stolen property and third-degree burglary.

Jason had warrants for theft; acquisition of retail merchandise for resale, and being a fugitive from another state. He was also charged with theft of services, third-degree burglary, theft, and trafficking meth.
