Joy Closet is preparing to captivate audiences in January with its 2nd Annual LipSync Battle. The non-profit announced the event at its annual dinner Tuesday night. Executive Director, Heather Gray says they have had a big year, which included many areas of growth.
click to download audioConstruction of the Hope House, which was just a dream a year ago, is complete and they will host a ribbon-cutting for the building next month. Hope House will serve as an intermediary stop for children entering the foster care system.
Assistant Director, Julia Roberts says they have success with the Eagle Fly program, which helps foster kids who are aging out of the system.
click to download audioThe evening was a fundraiser for Joy Closet, and they brought in Bishop WC Martin, whose church inspired the film Sound of Hope: The Story of Possum Trot. Martin says he is impressed by the work being done in the area.
His church, 22 families, took in 77 foster kids beginning in 1998, with Martin and his wife Donna adopting 4 children.
