Ascension Saint Thomas and Lifepoint Rehabilitation, a business unit of Lifepoint Health, have announced plans to build a new inpatient rehabilitation hospital on the Ascension Saint Thomas Clarksville Health Campus, pending state approval.

The 40-bed facility will be the third joint venture rehabilitation hospital between the two organizations, expanding access to advanced rehabilitation and physical medicine services across Middle Tennessee and surrounding communities.

The hospital will provide specialized care for adults recovering from serious and often debilitating conditions, including stroke, brain injury, spinal cord injury, neurological disorders, orthopedic trauma, and other complex diagnoses.

Patients will be treated in 40 private rooms and cared for by interdisciplinary teams of rehabilitation physicians, nurses, physical and occupational therapists, and speech-language pathologists.

In addition to serving local residents, the hospital will provide essential rehabilitation services for active-duty military personnel, veterans, and their families. Its design will incorporate programs that support long-term recovery and reintegration, with nearby Fort Campbell among the nation’s largest military communities.

The new facility will be located on the 96-acre Ascension Saint Thomas Clarksville Health Campus at Highway 76 and Interstate 24. The campus is being developed as an integrated center for care, anchored by a full-service hospital and supported by outpatient surgery, advanced imaging, and specialty services.

Plans for the $149 million facility were first revealed and reported in May.

Ascension Saint Thomas has maintained a presence in Clarksville and Montgomery County since 2005 and currently operates 14 care sites in the county. In July, the organization received state approval for a full-service hospital, which will serve as the cornerstone of the Clarksville health campus.

With 18 hospitals and more than 320 care sites across Middle Tennessee, Ascension Saint Thomas continues to expand healthcare services through growth and partnerships. Lifepoint Rehabilitation brings experience in operating specialized rehabilitation facilities nationwide.

The partners have begun the state’s regulatory process by submitting a Letter of Intent to apply for a Certificate of Need. The Tennessee Health Facilities Commission will review the application.
Pending approval, the rehabilitation hospital is expected to open in 2028.

Updates on the development timeline and future services will be released as regulatory milestones are met.
