Functional medicine, which has gained popularity in recent years, is an approach to healthcare that focuses on identifying and addressing the root causes of disease, rather than just treating symptoms.
That patient-centered model of care is coming to Trigg County. Kristin Dossett, APRN and AFMC Practitioner, is gearing up for a soft opening of her office next week.
During her Tuesday afternoon presentation to the Cadiz Rotary Club, Dossett introduced functional medicine to Rotarians.
Dossett explained that functional medicine is based on the idea that the body can repair itself, provided that diet, exercise, and other factors are managed properly.
Unlike conventional medicine, where doctors and nurses have a limited time with patients, Dossett said functional medicine spends more time with a patient to really dig into the issue.
Along with the functional medicine visits, Restore Functional Medicine will offer a therapy room.
Dossett said a website and Facebook page are forthcoming for Restore Functional Medicine. She added that next week will be dedicated to seeing a few patients for the first time and learning her new charting system, before fully diving in.
