Christian Care Receives Grant To Strengthen Nursing Staff

Christian Care Communities in Hopkinsville has been awarded a $50,000 grant from the Truist Foundation to help address nursing shortages and provide career mentoring for staff.

Marlo Long, director and community development manager for the Truist Foundation, said the grant is designed to strengthen workforce development in health care.

“We’ve had a long-standing relationship with Christian Care through our Louisville office and we are just pleased to support them through the Truist Foundation, their workforce development program to recruit new nurses to fill these critical positions aligns nicely with our workforce development funding pillar,” Long said. “So we’re just thrilled to be able to continue to support the work that they do to serve the seniors in our communities.”

Long said the grant will help both new and current staff.

“Nurses come here we’ve talked several times today thinking that their skill set is not going to be used efficiently but the fact is is that we’re getting extremely acute patients and from the hospital and we’re getting a lot we’re getting them at a higher degree than ever before and so our need to have that level of care has just enhanced tremendously over the past few years,” Tatum said. “This grant really allows us to kind of get ahead of the game so to speak and really put our money where our mouth is and get some education for the nurses that’s going to really directly impact patient care.”

Christian Care President and CEO Mary Lynn Spalding points to the organization’s long history of service.
